10.28.09 PIC lower left: During our visit to Baltimore, we spent about 10 hours in the code hearings and also spent some time with ICC President Adolf Zubia. During the
two days in Baltimore Monroe County Fire Marshals met and talked with other
fire service representatives from around the state.
03.12.09... New York State Govenor David Paterson was in Rochester
hosting a Town Hall Meeting. Following the meeting, Bill Timmons,
President of the Monroe County Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association
and Rob Drexler, President of the New York State Fire Marshals and
Inspectors Association met with the Govenor.
During their brief meeting the Presidents asked Govenor Paterson for
finances to purchase NY code books, a necessary tool for all Fire and
Building Code professionals. After explaining to the Govenor the reason
for the 1.4 million dollars he said, he has had to say no alot lately,
but he hopes he doesn't have to say no to this request. The Presidents
then met with the Deputy Director of State Operations and the Govenor's
Rochester Regional Director explaining the need for the code books and
how the 54g money could be used to fulfill this request.
The
meeting was quick yet positive. Code Enforcement Officials need to keep
up the efforts in the letter writing campaign to secure the funding for
the purchase of NY code books. The elected officials in Albany need to
be educated on our needs. Reach out to an elected official today.
